Natalia Fabia undertakes role of guest host/art instructor on ABC’s The Bachelorette
Los Angeles based contemporary artist, Natalia Fabia, plays a catalyst for male vulnerability and sex positivity on the episode “Naked Truths” on ABC’s The Bachlorette.
The 8th episode of the 16th season of the hit series premiered nationally, and available to international audiences, on December 1, 2020. Natalia Fabia, a traditional fine artist, undertook the responsibility of guest host/art instructor on Tuesday night’s episode. Bold, large scale paintings of Fabia’s well known works adorned the walls of the makeshift studio located at the La Quinta Resort in Palm Springs, California. The works showcase the last decade of her career and inspire the male contestants, the audience, and the intention of the show.
The episode challenges the remaining male contestants to sketch two nude models in an embrace, sculpt a physical representation of their love and relationship with the female lead, and finally the male contestants had to create a self portrait in which Fabia instructed them to “dig deep and make it personal.” Fabia’s role in the show and activities encouraged the male contestants to be honest, not only with themselves but also with one another. The concept of vulnerability was heightened by the original pieces of art chosen to decorate the walls, which remain true to Natalia Fabia’s theme of vibrant human experiences.
About Natalia Fabia
Natalia Fabia is a Polish-American artist based in Southern California. Her paintings aim to challenge societal taboos and norms as well as celebrate the individuality and fierce independence of the subject in focus. She approaches her muses through a voyeuristic gaze, allowing the audience to visualize themselves within an intimate setting, creating the approach to see those depicted as people worthy of respect. Through her work, Fabia tries to confront societal norms and attempts to motivate her audience to question as well as challenge their own preconceived judgements. She is recognized for bringing the themes of her pieces to life, by hosting fashion shows and performances that are aligned with the subject matter. Fabia’s future series’ will remain true to her works of investigating the idea of “normal,” by exploring the practice of play, where some of her newer works explore a visual and cultural juxtaposition of fashion culture and gender roles.
